When I was approached by Hazel Young about the short film project she was writing, directing and acting in, I was impressed by her bold 1980’s-inspired visual approach as well as the subject matter. I immediately agreed to get involved, not only on the production team, but also in a cameo role as a boorish lawyer.
At its heart, Sweetie conveys important messages on women’s safety and female rage, both of which highlight an urgent need for change.
Shot in 2025, this project offers neon-tinged visuals and a cast of identifiable character archetypes with the aim of stimulating much needed discussion, understanding, and action.
